Sunny Sunday’s: 5 stories that’ll make you smile

Here are some the titles of some of my textbooks this semester: “Evil Men,” “That the World May Know: Bearing Witness to Atrocity,” and “A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide.” It’s easy to get discouraged. helpless. frustrated.

With that, here are 5 random stories that have made me smile! I’ll try to post these weekly.

 1. Caine’s Arcade


This 9-year-old spent his summer vacation building an elaborate DIY cardboard arcade inside his dad’s auto parts store. The entire summer passed, and Caine had yet to have a single customer, until one day, a filmmaker stopped to buy a door handle for his car, and became Caine’s first customer. This video launched a movement to foster imagination and creativity everywhere—it’s definitely worth the watch!

2. Lost ring returned after nearly 40 years


A diver found a ring while searching for fossils in South Carolina’s Cooper River and tracked down the owner’s son through social media. Turns out, the ring held much more significance to the family than you’d expect!

 3. Man, 96, enters song contest to pay tribute to love of his life

This man mailed his submission in a large manila envelope to an online song-writing contest. Restore your faith in the beauty and power of music by hearing his story about his 75-year long relationship with his recently deceased wife, sweet Lorraine.

4. 28 pictures that prove that dreams do come true


Irish rugby star Brian O’Driscoll visits a young girl in the hospital with the Heineken Cup– sunshine in photo form.
